International Entertainment News: Filmmaker Reports Porn Stars ...

Filmmaker Reports Porn Stars Enraged Over Documentary That Teaches Men How to Manipulate Women

Indie documentary "Car Date" promoted at Sundance uses porn stars as test subjects to show that mind control tactics work on women

LOS ANGELES, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- First time filmmaker Lacy Burke wanted to use porn stars in his documentary for one reason -- "porn stars could never be considered naive or inexperienced," says Burke. The documentary demonstrates to audiences, presumably male audiences, how to use mind control techniques to influence women and manipulate their choices. "Of course these techniques will work on the average girl at your local bar. I wanted to use porn stars because they are savvy. If mind control tactics work on them, then they will work on any woman," Burke explains.

According to Burke, porn stars Victoria White and Charlie Laine tell a different story. Both women declined to be interviewed, but their opinion of the documentary "Car Date" is clear from their messages on Twitter, Facebook and other social media. "It appears that they regret having participated in the film. What isn't clear is why. It seems inane, but could it be possible that even porn stars can feel used and taken advantage of?" says Burke.

Burke states that after a screening of the film, it is clear why White and Laine are offended and even resentful. When he hired the girls, Burke did not tell them that the film was meant to demonstrate methods of mind control. "If I had told them what I was up to, it would have ruined the whole experiment," Burke said with a devilish grin on his face. For about 50 minutes, audiences see the girls reacting to Burke, but it is through voiceovers and subtitles, added later in the editing phase of production, that Burke reveals which mind control techniques he is using and shows us how the girls' behavior falls right in line.

Despite the porn stars feeling exploited, this documentary is getting big reactions from audiences and positive feedback from heavy-hitters in the porn industry, such as Wicked Pictures. There are moments in this film that make you cringe, moments that make you think and, admittedly, moments that you file away under "I've got to remember this...that was brilliant." The film is controversial, but it is also original, cheeky and unapologetically bold. A mixture of Taxi-Cab Confessions and The Game, this documentary is a powerful glimpse into the minds of women and the methods men can use to influence them.

NYC activists reflect on Occupy's direction

NEW YORK (AP) ? Occupy Wall Street protesters anticipate that with the coming of spring their movement for economic justice will pick up momentum, making priorities of issues as varied as the environment and the November elections.

But on Sunday, a day after police broke up a rally at Manhattan's Zuccotti Park and arrested dozens, some observers wondered whether a movement so diffuse could accomplish anything.

"I'm really grateful to be part of a generation that wants change, 'cause we should all want change," said Jennifer Campbell, a graduate student in documentary filmmaking at Hofstra University. "But I'm not sure what that change is, or if they know what that change is."

And Harlem resident Kanene Holder said the movement is broader than any one issue. "This is not a beauty pageant," she said. "We cannot homogenize this movement into one streamlined vision."

Meanwhile, police were seeking a subpoena to identify an apparent Occupy protester who they said tweeted a threat to kill police officers, spokesman Paul Browne confirmed Sunday.

The New York Post and Daily News reported a message by an apparent Occupy protester saying they won't make a difference if they don't kill a cop or two was tweeted at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday.

The crackdown at Zuccotti happened late Saturday after hundreds of activists had gathered to mark the sixth-month birthday of the movement.

"There was a lot of silliness and just kind of singing and dancing and really very jovial," said Chris Casuccio, who works for a nonprofit organization. "We had some banners up. There was one tarp that was up but it was tiny. It could fit like five people under it."

But Detective Brian Sessa of the NYPD said protesters had started breaking park rules against setting up tents and tarps.

Police said 73 people were detained. It was unclear how many were still in custody late Sunday.

More than 70 people gathered at Union Square Park in lower Manhattan Sunday night and were still there early Monday morning.

Occupy activists said the officers moved in with little warning Saturday and beat some protesters. Police said Sunday they had no information about any protesters being injured.

"They just came in swinging batons," said protester Sandra Nurse. She said a woman began having a seizure and another protester's head was "smashed into a building window."

Casuccio said protesters had little time to leave Zuccotti if they wanted to avoid arrest. "They gave us one quick warning and then just came in, hundreds of people," he said.

Police responded to a request seeking a response to the accusations of brutality by releasing a video that they said showed Cecily McMillan, 23, elbowing a police officer in the face as she is led from Zuccotti Park.

The woman was taken into custody and sent to Bellevue Hospital for psychiatric treatment, police said.

A group of council members from New York City were planning a news conference on Monday to denounce what they said was excessive force used by police on the protesters.

As cleaning crews used hoses to erase all signs of the clash on Sunday, Occupy activists offered differing perspectives on where the movement is headed.

"We're going to keep going," said Christopher Guerra, who has spent many nights at Zuccotti since the movement started last Sept. 17. He added, "It's going to get interesting during the election cycle. We're going to be more of a presence in the political world. I know we have a couple of people running for office."

According to Mother Jones magazine, 10 candidates for House and Senate seats in the November elections have made Occupy part of their campaigns. They include Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren and Hakeem Jeffries, who is running for Congress in Brooklyn. But some Occupy supporters consider themselves anarchists who abjure electoral politics.

Nurse, a member of Occupy's direct action working group, said she expects college students will have "a huge role to play this summer organizing around student debt." She noted that the issue resonates both with students and with their parents and has the potential to broaden the movement.

Ted Schulman, an Occupy protester who lives near Zuccotti, said his focus is the upcoming United Nation Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. He said he wants to "challenge the U.N. on what their vision of a green economy is."

Tourists streamed by Zuccotti on their way to the nearby World Trade Center site on Sunday, and some said they were not familiar with Occupy Wall Street. "We're from Colorado," a teenager in a tour group explained.

Brian Cummings of Columbus Junction, Iowa, said he did know about it.

"I understand the Occupy movement," Cummings said. "I understand a lot of people's frustration. I'm not sure how effective it is. ... Nothing seems to be being accomplished."

V.Ships selects KVH mini-VSAT Broadband as Preferred Satellite ...

03.05.12

MIDDLETOWN, RI ? March 5, 2012 ? In a move recognizing the growing demand for enhanced data applications in the commercial shipping industry, V.Ships, the world?s largest independent ship manager serving a fleet of over 1,000 vessels, has selected the mini-VSAT Broadbandsm service from KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) as its preferred satellite communications solution. V.Ships intends to promote KVH?s TracPhone? onboard terminals and the global mini-VSAT Broadband service to its customers through SeaCom Electronics Ltd., a fellow member of V.Group, V.Ships? parent company.

?Connecting ships with onshore networks offers exciting new ways to bring ship and shore-based operations closer together, to improve efficiencies, to manage operating expenses, and in general make a better onboard life for officers and crew,? said Stephen MacFarlane, Information Systems Director at V.Ships. He stressed, ?We plan to use the mini-VSAT Broadband network to deliver navigational, safety, and real time weather data, offer Internet caf? and VoIP calling to help further enhance crew morale, enable onshore technical experts to collaborate on repairs with their colleagues at sea, and to connect ships to onshore networks using ?ShipSure?, our enterprise resource planning software developed by V.Ships.?

The mini-VSAT Broadband service is unique in that it uses ArcLight? spread spectrum technology developed by KVH?s satellite technology partner ViaSat (Nasdaq: VSAT). The service offers a broad seamless web of multi-megabit service created by 14 Ku-band satellite transponders, and will soon cover 95% of the earth with overlayed coverage from three global C-band transponders. In most regions, vessels enjoy redundant coverage to assure robust connectivity. The spread spectrum technology enables use of antennas as small as 37 cm for the Ku-band service and as small as 1 meter for the combined C/Ku-band coverage. KVH is the only maritime VSAT provider to manufacture its own fully integrated onboard terminal, own and operate a global VSAT network, and provide worldwide 24/7/365 after-sale support.

?We have created a truly next generation maritime broadband system, designed from the ground up to deliver fast, high quality VSAT service on a global basis, covering 95% of the earth, including all of the world?s shipping lanes,? said Svend Larsen, Managing Director of KVH?s European operations. ?Our spread spectrum technology is fast and reliable, and has very low latency, making it extremely well suited for running networked applications. We are delighted to be working with V.Ships, one of the world?s leading and most innovative ship management companies to bring next generation broadband services to their customers? vessels.?

Installation and technical support for V.Ships? customers will be handled by SeaCom Electronics Ltd., a leading supplier of communication, navigation, and entertainment solutions for the merchant fleet including the cruise, ferry, and yacht industries. SeaCom will distribute KVH TracPhone satellite communications systems and the mini-VSAT Broadband service, as well as KVH?s TracVision? satellite TV systems. SeaCom will be supported by KVH?s key account manager, Niels Reuther, from the company?s EMEA headquarters in Denmark.

?We selected the KVH mini-VSAT Broadband service after evaluating its performance on more than a dozen of our managed vessels,? said Neil Sayce, Managing Director of SeaCom Electronics, Ltd. ?The small, relatively lightweight antennas are much easier to place, do not require a crane, and can offer a greater choice in finding a clear location to minimize obstructions by the ship?s superstructure. Freight and installation costs are reduced and experience to date has shown the TracPhone V7 system is quicker and easier to install than traditional VSAT equipment. The standard fit would be the V7, but the options offered by the V3 and the new V11, providing global C/Ku-band service on a 1-meter antenna, make KVH an ideal partner to work with given the varied needs of a large, managed fleet.?

KVH and V.Ships are currently making presentations to V.Ships customers, introducing them to the advantages of the mini-VSAT Broadband service. Interested readers can find additional information on the KVH website at www.minivsat.com.

HBT: Utley hopes to play in game next week

Chase Utley finally broke his silence earlier this afternoon and while he didn?t say much, he told Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com that he would like to play in a game next week.

The Phillies always planned to bring Utley along slowly this spring due to his chronic right knee condition, but there are some minor signs that things that haven?t gone according to plan. The 33-year-old second baseman takes batting practice pretty regularly, but as David Hale of the News Journal notes, he backed off taking grounders after feeling pain in his knee early in camp.

Phillies? general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. continues to express optimism about Utley being ready for Opening Day, but we won?t know much about his status until he begins pushing himself in game action. It?s believed that he?ll need somewhere around 40 to 50 at-bats in order to be ready for the start of the season, so he could be eased into action as a designated hitter on the minor league side before picking up the intensity by playing defense in major league games.

Utley began last season on the disabled list due to his knee condition and didn?t make his debut until May 23. He ended up batting .259/.344/.425 with 11 homers, 44 RBI, 14 stolen bases and a .769 OPS over 454 plate appearances in the regular season and .438 (7-for-18) with two doubles, one triple and one RBI during the NLDS against the Cardinals.

Wanted ? Social Business Architects | Business 2 Community

The world is changing and needs Social Business Architects. Gone is the epoch of the passive consumer, now customers want a say. At the same time, the quest for survival and growth is causing companies to stop looking at suppliers as someone to squeeze on price and instead as partners in innovation. And, employers are realizing that to maximize their success they need to attract and engage the best talent not just into internal talent pools, but external ones as well.

Social Business Architecture Intersection

It feels like you can?t go a day without hearing someone or some publication mention Facebook, Twitter or some other component of the social media universe. The fact is that social media has invaded the public consciousness and people are now more suspicious of someone who doesn?t have a social media presence than someone who does. People are starting to judge others based on their Facebook or LinkedIn profile they ever meet them, and expecting companies to answer the tweet they?ve sent them or the question they?ve posted on their Facebook wall within the day, the hour, the minute (believe me the expected pace of response is accelerating).

Social media has become so important and pervasive that it is beginning to co-opt the term ?social business? into its lexicon to describe an organization?s engagement with people outside of its borders across a variety of channels and for a variety of purposes. Social media is stealing the term ?social business? away from the social enterprise folks, and that?s okay ? they can?t possibly use ?social business? and ?social enterprise? at the same time anyways.

The importance of ?social business? and social business design has grown as our technologies have matured from contact management to customer relationship management (CRM) systems, from bulletin boards to discussion forums, from static to dynamic html, from social networks to social media, and from media consumer to media producer. Ultimately ?social business? is the science of optimizing the intersection of people, process, and technology. If we look at ?social business? as the discipline managing that intersection and helping an organization focusing on how it engages with others and maximizes the value of its relationships, I?ve been working in social business for more than 15 years as what I like to call a Social Business Architect.

Social Business Architecture Ecosystem

In addition to facilitating and optimizing the group dynamics and interactions inside the organization, a Social Business Architect specializes in identifying the different parts of an organization that need to interact with groups of people outside the organization, how those parts of the organization should work together to communicate with people outside the organization, and helps to identify and implement communications solutions that connect the organization with the target groups so that a meaningful connection and conversation can be built, and then helps to manage the conversations and the information and learnings from their outcomes for the benefit of the organization.

A Social Business Architect keeps the organizations focused on the goals of its relationships with the outside, works with the organization?s technologists and other specialists in other departments to enable the necessary conversations to take place for the benefit of the organization.

From building Symantec?s first web-based multi-lingual technical support and customer service capabilities to working with the Windows Live team at Microsoft to building the world?s most popular innovation community centered around http://innovationexcellence.com, I?ve seen the importance of finding the right intersection between primary connection points and sources of value for the community to establish itself, grow and thrive.

To build a successful community and attract talent to your organization you must try to identify as an organization what resources you already have (or could create) that will have some value to the community that you are trying to build. These sources of value to the community could be:

  1. Financial
  2. Informational
  3. Educational
  4. Social
  5. Or come from another store of value

You must give people a reason to want to connect with you and to stay close ? and yes, hopefully contribute over time.

In addition to identifying the value that you can bring to the community you must also identify which connection points will multiply the attractive power of the sources of value you choose to focus on. There are three primary connection points to consider:

1. Passion ? One of the ways that you can attract people to your community is to leverage the power of passion. Seek to identify what people are passionate about when it comes to your company or your products. Passion can be extremely contagious. Is there a way that you can inject the passion that people may have for your company or products into your community?

2. Purpose ? Another connection point to consider is to tap into the power of purpose. Not all organizations are committed to serving a larger social purpose, but all can consider introducing elements of public outreach or philanthropy that the community can engage with and feel good about contributing to. Are you building walls to keep people out? Or are you creating something that people can feel a part of?

Social Business Architecture Attraction

3. Fun ? And don?t forget the power of fun. One of the ways of connecting people to your community is to have something fun for people to do. Recognize people for their participation in your community in fun and different ways to keep them interested and engaged, and have some fun reinforcing the ethos of the community.

And when you bring the right sources of value together with the right connection points that is when the magic of attraction and engagement happens and a community starts to grow its membership and participation. But we are not just seeking to build a community; we are looking to activate it as well (to get people engaged, contributing, discussing, connecting, etc.).

Social Business Architecture Engagement

This is where Social Business Architects prove their worth to the organization. They can use social media, digital communications, value analysis, and other collaborative tools to help organizations attract and engage customers, partners and employees to help the organization achieve its commercial goals. Whether the future direction of your social business architecture includes beginning collaborative innovation, increasing employee retention, building stronger partnerships, growing customer lifetime value, or another effort, be sure that you are involving the Social Business Architects in your organization to help set the right goals and find the right tools to ensure the effort?s success. Only then will you put your organization on the path it needs to be to transform itself from an internally focused product and service factory to a truly internally and externally focused and integrated social business capable of sustainable innovation, retention of the growing millennial work force, long-term customer relationships and loyalty, and true partnerships with its vendors and suppliers for mutual benefit.

Are you ready to architect a social business foundation under your organization?

You can read more on this topic in a white paper recently published by Innocentive.

Or you can download a PDF version of the article above if you would prefer.

U.S. Chamber challenges Obama's labor appointees

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Chamber of Commerce filed a motion on Thursday to challenge President Barack Obama's recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board.

Obama set off a furor in January when he bypassed Congress and installed nominees into politically sensitive jobs at the NLRB and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Critics contend the recess appointments were possibly illegal because they were made while the Senate was still technically in session.

On Thursday, the chamber followed through on January promises to consider legal action.

It asked a Court of Appeals to add the recess appointment challenge to a case brought by Noel Canning, a small bottling company in Washington state, to appeal an NLRB ruling against it over pay negotiations.

The case provides a vehicle for the Chamber to make a larger legal argument that Obama's appointments violate the Senate's constitutional right to review board candidates.

"Appointing three of five members to the NLRB in a legally questionable way casts doubt on the work of the entire agency," said Thomas Donohue, president and chief executive of the Chamber.

The NLRB did not immediately respond to a request for comment. White House officials could not immediately be reached.

Earlier this month, a federal judge denied a similar challenge to the NLRB appointments brought by the National Federation of Independent Business, a small business lobbying group.

The NFIB joined an unrelated suit over an NLRB rule requiring employers to display a poster explaining workers' rights to unionize, but the judge chastised the plaintiffs for trying to "shoehorn" a political dispute into the case and refused to consider the issue.

Google: Delayed app developer payments now going out

Google Play logo

Reports have emerged over the past couple of weeks that a significant number of European Android developers have yet to receive their payment for sales during February 2012. And today, Google has today informed affected developers that payment has been initiated, and that the money should start appearing in their bank accounts within three working days.

A statement for European devs on the Google Play developer console reads --

February 2012 Payout Delays
We're aware of reports from some European developers that they have yet to receive their March 2012 payout for February 2012 sales. Please rest assured that we are aware of this issue and have worked to resolve it. The payout has been initiated on 15 March 2012. However, it may take up to three additional business days to register the payout in your bank account. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced and appreciate your understanding.

Google has sent a similar message to affected developers by email, apologizing for the late payment and advising them to allow three working days for their banks to process the payment.

No explanation was offered as to why the payments were so late, but we imagine some kind of technical glitch was to blame, possibly relating to the switch-over from Android Market to the new Google Play Store. Hopefully this marks the end of a frustrating couple of weeks for European Android developers.

Thanks, Tom!
