Precast concrete systems are steadily replacing traditional methods. In fact, new projects are now successfully using precast concrete across indoor and outdoor construction jobs. This growth in demand comes as no surprise as precast concrete components are time and cost efficient and provide a high-quality finish to the overall structure. The structures are produced by casting concrete and moulding them in a controlled environment, to be then transported to the construction site and lifted into place. It also adds to the sustainability and durability of the project.
Experts have been quick to recognise these benefits, particularly the versatility and ability to better withstand the extreme temperatures in the region. Precast structures are much easier to maintain, meaning any repairs needed later in the building's life will be straightforward and much more cost effective. It is also much more environmentally friendly and sustainable; being fully recyclable and contributing to lower lighting costs due to its reflectance qualities.
The precast sector in the UAE is currently valued at Dhs6bn and employs more than 25,000 technicians and skilled workers. According to Zawya, there are 29 precast factories in the UAE and these numbers are set to grow as the demand for new and modern methods in construction continue to rise.
Commenting on this trend, Philip Tabone, Chairman of Philip A. Tabone International says, "The region's construction sector is now on a high growth route with a great number of public and private sector projects at various stages of development. To meet these deadlines, contractors need products that are versatile, economical, environment-friendly and durable. This makes precast a popular choice and the Middle East one of the biggest consumers of precast structures today."
Concurring with this trend are Emarat Europe, one of the region's leading precast producers and HESS, Masa, Poyatos and Formimpianti, just a few of the key manufacturers with a prominent presence at the event.
Middle East Concrete will also raise some pertinent questions on resource optimisation of precast facilities in the Middle East. In the last decade, many state-of-the-art precast plants were installed in the region, however, the output of these plants have not always been fully optimised. The event will host a panel session which will bring together precast producers and machinery suppliers to discuss and find effective solutions to producing and utilising precast structures efficiently in the current business environment. The four day exhibition will also include free-to-attend panel sessions on tower crane safety and sustainability in concrete structures.
"As the region's construction sector makes a steady rebound, the main concerns raised by the industry heads centre around wanting cost effective, durable and sustainable solutions," says Nathan Waugh, event manager, Middle East Concrete.
"Precast answers this need and is well suited for the Gulf market. It also offers huge business opportunities to the construction sector and the educational elements to this year's event help to promote these, through increasing understanding of sustainable concrete solutions and encouraging the share of knowledge and best practice."
Middle East Concrete will take place alongside The Big 5 2012, PMV Live and FM EXPO at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
